Bathroom Wonders: Pt. 2

To continue with my discussion of bathrooms, I have a complaint about an issue that has plagued the bathroom world for generations.  The issue of the toilet paper rope.  If you know what I mean, then you have full understanding why this is such an issue, and if you don't then let me explain the situation to you.

By definition: Toilet paper rope is the occurrence of toilet paper being drawn from the dispenser, where the final product is a rope like piece of paper that needs to be carefully unraveled before use.

Have you ever been sitting in a public restroom stall, doing your business, went to grab toilet paper just to have it come out in one nice rope?  This is the situation with the toilet paper rope.  The solution is quit simple, but there is just one problem, the public restrooms of the world are overrun with the wrong equipment.

Take a look at the problem!

This normal bathroom fixture is the source of all of our bathroom woes.  Think back to the last time that you were in a public restroom.  You were sitting there, minding your own business, and then it was time to reach for the toilet paper.  If you found yourself in a bathroom with a fixture that resembles the one shown above, inevitably you were forced to deal with the toilet paper rope.  The real problem is the position of the paper in the dispenser added to the angle of the dispenser to the user.  When you are sitting on the toilet, you have to pull the toilet paper out of the dispenser in a way where you are not going to have to touch the ground.  If you could just pull the paper straight down, there would be no problem, but because the dispenser is mounted so close to the ground, you have to pull it out at a horizontal angle.  This way of pulling out the paper makes all of the paper bunch at the corner and subsequently come out in a rope type fashion.

The solution is simple.  Take a look at the proper bathroom fixture.

This type of fixture would solve all of our problems.  With this dispenser, the paper is positioned so that you are supposed to pull it out in a horizontal.  This eliminates all toilet paper rope issues that one may have.

If you are ever in a situation where you are in the planning stages of a public restroom facility, please take the time to consider using the proper fixtures.  It will save the everyone a lot of hassle and frustration.

Bathroom Wonders

Today, before a big test I had, I realized I needed to go to the bathroom.  I made my way to the mens room, and was sitting in the stall, looking at my feet when I realized something.  The stall seemed to be floating.  Upon further examination I realized that the stall door and dividers were mounted on the ceiling.  Nothing was touching the floor.  I also noticed that the stall seemed to be dated from about the 1970's.

This got me thinking.  Have you ever been in a stall, doing your business, and see the floor around you and how it is less than spotless?  I think I have found the issue.  The stalls are manufactured these days where they all are mounted on the floor.  This makes it a little difficult to clean effectively in a quick way.  However, if there was nothing that was attaching it to the floor, it would be easy to run a mop over the floor and thoroughly clean in a quick swoop.

Why do things always have to change?  This type of bathroom fixture was obviously a great idea, so why change it.  Why make it where it is harder to clean?  If you can answer that question, you are smarter than a lot of people these days.  Picture a world where there were clean bathrooms everywhere.  Wouldn't that be a nice change.  No more dirty toilets, stinky stalls, nasty floors.  Ok, well maybe this would only help the floors.

I think about a lot of things like this throughout my day.  It always makes me think when I see something that is so obvious, yet so clearly overlooked.  This wonderful invention that has so clearly gone unnoticed by the bathroom architects of the world is just another thing that makes me wonder why things are the way they are.
